This notice explains what personal information medilearn.africa collects, why, and what your rights are. We keep it short and in plain language.
Who we are
Medilearn provides free, accredited continuing professional development for South African doctors, delivered with the UCT Department of Medicine. This website is operated by the Medilearn team. You can reach us by replying to any email from us or through the contact section on our home page.
What we collect when you register as a doctor
- Your first name and surname
- Your email address
- Your HPCSA registration (MP) number
- A record of your consent and when you gave it
- Technical details of your application and sign-ins, such as the internet address they came from
We do not ask for, and do not want, anything more. There are no passwords: you sign in with a code we email you.
Why we collect it
- To verify, by hand, that you are a registered medical practitioner. We check your MP number against the Health Professions Council of South Africa’s public register.
- To give verified doctors access to recordings of past events and other doctor-only material.
- To email you sign-in codes and notices about your account.
We rely on your consent, which you give by ticking the box on the registration form. You may withdraw it at any time by asking us to delete your account.
Who can see your information
Only the small Medilearn team that verifies and administers doctor accounts. Your details are never sold, and never shared with anyone else unless the law requires it.
How long we keep it
We keep your details while your account is active. If your application is declined, we delete it within three months. You can ask us to delete your account and details at any time, and we will.
Cookies
When you sign in, a small cookie keeps you signed in on your device for up to seven days. The site’s cookie banner covers the analytics cookies we use to understand how the site is used.
Your rights
Under the Protection of Personal Information Act (POPIA) you may ask us at any time to show you the information we hold about you, correct it, or delete it. If you are unhappy with how we have handled your information, you may complain to the Information Regulator of South Africa at inforegulator.org.za.
