Medical Ethics CPD Course

In partnership with the University of Cape Town’s Ethics Lab.

Online and self-paced.
A UCT certificate and 6 Ethics CPD points.

Ethics CPD points are notoriously difficult to obtain. This course gives South African doctors the practical reasoning skills they need to work through the ethical dilemmas of everyday practice, and it carries a recognised University of Cape Town certificate.

It is run by the UCT Ethics Lab as “Argue Better! Ethical Reasoning for Healthcare Professionals”. You work through a series of recorded sessions in your own time, with the option to join a live online session. As Archbishop Emeritus Desmond Tutu put it, the aim is to disagree well, not to win.

What is included

  • A University of Cape Town certificate on completion.
  • 6 Ethics CPD points, among the hardest CPD points for doctors to come by.
  • Recorded sessions you cover at your own pace, introducing the tools of sound ethical reasoning.
  • An optional live online session to put your questions to the team and work through real cases.
  • Practical, not abstract. You learn to build and engage with arguments on the ethical questions you actually meet in practice.

Who it is for

Any South African healthcare professional who needs ethics CPD points and wants to reason more confidently through the competing obligations we owe our patients, our employers and ourselves.

What doctors say

“Not just basic ethical dilemmas as I expected, but building blocks to arguing ethical cases in my environment. I found that very helpful.”

“An excellent course, which was enriching, well-balanced and very thought-provoking.”
